1. Cindy Sherman,Untitled #96, 1981.

Cindy Sherman’s photograph “Untitled #96” has become the most expensive photograph ever sold after being auctioned off by Christie’s in New York for $3.89 million. The image, which is one in a series of 10, was originally commissioned back in 1981 by Artforum magazine, but didn’t make the final cut. The photograph features Sherman lying on a linleum floor clutching a personal ad, acting as a 30-something single woman in dismay.
